Interview With Tao Andra:

Welcome to Loudlife and congrats on your new release “Born Again (Babylonia)”.

You’ve just reworked a true club classic into a peak-time techno weapon… what was your intention going into this? Do you have a personal connection to it?

This is the song that got me into electronic music back in 2009. I have a special connection to it. I always wanted to do my own version. My intention was to make an energetic version that allows more people to discover this amazing classic.

We’re seeing a lot of classic tracks being reimagined lately, why do you think they resonate so strongly with today’s audiences?

I believe it’s because it’s a double win. Older people get to relive the nostalgia of the past and young people have the opportunity to discover these classics as well. These songs always get a huge reaction on the dance floor. Timeless music will always resonate with the audiences that’s why we see a lot of the classics being reworked.

How would you describe the Tao Andra sound to someone hearing you for the first time?

Full of energy, catchy, punchy and emotional.

You’re originally from Romania, shaped by the Dutch techno scene, and now based in Lisbon, how have these different cultures influenced your sound?

My sound is a product of all these influences. Growing up in Romania I listened to a lot of pop on TV. That’s maybe the biggest influence in my music. The Netherlands is the place where I discovered Techno. It was a great school for me because there techno is like a religion. Since I moved to Lisbon I dedicated my life to becoming a music producer. All these places are infused in my music. At my core, I love techno and I love pop.

How do you stay balanced mentally while living such a fast-paced life?

I stopped drinking a year ago and that changed my life. I feel so much better. I do lots of sports and martial arts. My life at home is very structured and very normal. I’m lucky that many times I travel with my husband and that’s the best thing on the planet.

Is there a dream collaboration you’d love to make happen?

Four Tet.

What’s your biggest goal at this stage of your career?

To make music that touches millions of people.
