Mozambo: “If Our Music Can Bring People Together, We’ve Achieved Our Goal”

French duo Mozambo have just dropped their fresh take on Angie Stone’s iconic Wish I Didn’t Miss You — a track that has quickly become our Ibiza anthem this season. We caught up with them at their favourite spot, La Fāmilia Ibiza, where signature cocktails, fine wine and gourmet tapas create the perfect atmosphere in the heart of Ibiza Town. It’s truly a place worth visiting. During our chat, we talked about the story behind the release, the inspiration they find on the island, their Jungle Disco label, and what’s next for one of the most exciting rising acts on the scene. And after spending time with them, one thing is clear – we’ll be cheering them on as their star continues to rise.

Interview With Mozambo:

How does it feel to be back in Ibiza?

It’s so cool. We’re super happy to be with you today. Ibiza is one of our favourite places. It feels like family here, so it’s always good to come back.

I have to tell you a funny story. We’ve been listening to your latest release all the time and absolutely love it. Now I’m interviewing you about it, which feels pretty magical.

That’s crazy! Thank you so much. It really means a lot.

What made you decide to remake and revisit such an iconic track?

The idea actually started around three years ago while we were in Ibiza. We’ve always loved the original version of the song. We were watching videos of Carl Cox’s legendary Space closing and felt inspired to create our own interpretation.

At first, it was just something fun for our DJ sets in Ibiza. But once we started working on it, we really loved what we were creating. Then it became a long process to finish and release it properly. We completed the track with our friend Bruno Antidote, and that’s how the whole story began. Looking back, it brings back really good memories.

If Angie Stone could hear your version, what would you hope she’d feel?

For us, the most important thing was preserving the original emotion of her music. The song carries such a powerful message and deep lyrics. Our goal was to bring that emotion into a club environment while keeping its soul intact.

We wanted it to connect with people in a different way and spread love through the dancefloor. Ultimately, it’s our tribute to Angie Stone, and we hope she would have loved it.

I’m pretty sure she would have jumped on stage and sung it with you.

Definitely! That would be our dream.

We’re in Ibiza, one of the world’s most important electronic music destinations. What makes the island so special for you as artists?

For me, it’s the inspiration. Ibiza has a unique energy and vibe that’s perfect for making music and composing.

You can listen to artists from every genre here. You discover new talent, see legends perform, and constantly find inspiration. It’s a very special place.

It’s also the combination of everything — the nature, the people, the atmosphere, and of course the music. For electronic music, it’s simply one of the best places in the world.

Tonight you’re playing at Hï Ibiza alongside Dawn Patrol. How did that collaboration come together?

It started through music. We released a few tracks with them over the past year, so it felt like a full-circle moment to finally share the same lineup.

We had tried to make it happen before, but this felt like the perfect moment. It means a lot because it’s our first time playing Hï Ibiza with our friends.

We’re incredibly happy to be part of such an amazing party. It’s a huge milestone for us.

What’s your dream gig or dream venue to play one day?

I think one answer would be Coachella.

And maybe the Universe! (laughs)

Of course, we love big stages, but at the same time we also enjoy intimate events. If the vibe is right, the people are there, and the moment feels special, we’re happy to play anywhere.

What’s coming next for Mozambo this summer?

Lots of gigs and lots of new music.

We launched our record label, Jungle Disco, exactly one year ago. This summer we’ll be hosting several parties in France, including events in our hometown Marseille and in Biarritz.

We’ll also be releasing plenty of new music on our own label, and maybe on a few other labels as well — although we can’t say too much about that yet.

It’s going to be a very exciting summer and we can’t wait.

What’s the vision behind Jungle Disco? What does a producer need to have to release music on the label?

We’re heavily influenced by disco music. That’s where we come from as musicians. We’re huge fans of the sounds of the 1970s, and of house music as well.

Of course, house and disco are at the core of the label, but we don’t want to be limited by genres. We’re open-minded. If the music is good and it moves us emotionally, that’s what matters.

That’s really the philosophy behind Jungle Disco.

Finally, what message would you like to share with the electronic music community today?

Peace, love, community, and happiness.

We simply want people to be happy. If our music can bring people together on a dancefloor, create connections, and make them smile, then we’ve achieved our goal.

Music is about unity.

Peace, love, and dance.

And dance!

Thank you so much.

Thank you!
