Interview With JØRD

I’m right here in Ibiza with JØRD next to me. Are you excited to close Taraka with Gordo and the others tonight?

I’m super, super excited. I’m on cloud nine right now because it’s my first time in Ibiza and I’m also playing at Pacha, which is a legendary club, and with Gordo. It’s amazing. I’m super, super excited.

You’re playing at such an iconic club alongside names like Gordo, Patrick Topping and Vintage Culture. What do you think is the secret behind your success?

I think, as I always say, everything that I have right now in my music, even in my life, is because of music. I’m super dedicated to making music. I try to be as creative as I can, and I think this catches the attention of big names like Gordo, Vintage Culture and the other DJs who have supported me. I think because of my music, I’m here today, and it’s probably going to take me to beautiful places around the world. My music is the key.

What was your reaction when you found out you were going to play at Pacha?

It was actually funny because I was at home, and Gordo sent me a message in the middle of the day saying, “Are you ready to go to Ibiza or what?” I saw it on my WhatsApp and was like, “Oh my God, this could be real.” Then I knew he was going to take over the Pacha residency, so I thought, “Oh my God, my first time at Pacha. This is wild.” It was quite a surprise, but deep down, I knew I deserved it. Maybe not now, because I’m not so sure about my image or myself, but at that moment I thought, “Oh my God, I got it.” I was so, so happy.

Do you still have any dreams you want to achieve in music?

Oh my God, yes. I have a lot of dreams. There are a lot of big festivals I want to play, like ULTRA, Tomorrowland and ADC. But beyond that, I want to bring my music all over the world. In the more distant future, I’m also going to try to work with cinema because I really love cinema. That’s my dream for the next 5–10 years. I would really love to work on film scores, so that would be amazing.

You arrived in Ibiza a couple of days ago and had a chance to visit Ushuaïa with David Guetta. Is he also an inspiration for you?

For sure. David, alongside other DJs, was one of the first DJs I saw in videos, Tomorrowland aftermovies and through their music. It was kind of nostalgic, you know, seeing the guy I was listening to when I was 14 years old. It was amazing, and he’s still doing it. The club was super packed. He’s a great example of success and also a really talented guy. It was unreal, actually.

What else have you done in Ibiza? There are so many places to visit and you’ve spent several days here. What’s been your best memory from this week?

I think watching Solomun at Pacha. I was there on Sunday, and it was phenomenal. I’m a huge fan of his, and he has played some of my tracks in the past, so it was super cool to watch him live. The beaches here are also phenomenal. They’re super beautiful, and Ibiza feels like such a cosy place. You feel at home here. It has been phenomenal, and we still have tonight ahead of us, so it’s going to be another legendary night. I’m going to make sure I capture a lot of content and videos because I want to remember this for the rest of my life.

Very soon, you’re going to release the iconic track “Underwater” with DJ Chus. What’s the story behind it?

I actually found the sample. It’s from, I think, 1979. It’s a really old record, and when I listened to it, I thought, “Wow, this is phenomenal.” Then I found out that DJ Chus had done a new version of the track, so he currently owns the rights. I thought, “Okay, let me try to do a remix and see how it goes.” It was amazing. Then I received support from a lot of DJs, including Mita Gami and Adam Ten, and I thought, “Wow, this track really connects.” Then I sent the track to DJ Chus, and he said, “Okay, let’s do it. Let’s officially release it.” It’s going to come out on October 2nd, I think, if I’m not mistaken. It’s going to be an amazing track, and I’m probably going to play it here tonight, so it’s going to be wild.

We can’t wait for this one. Thank you so much for joining us, and enjoy Ibiza!

Thank you too!
