Funk Tribu turns inward on “LIFE”, a four-track EP exploring identity, balance and growth after years of relentless touring.

Bogotá-born, Berlin-based producer Funk Tribu returns with “LIFE”, a four-track EP that marks a new chapter in both his personal and artistic journey. Released through his own label, TRIBE, the project looks beyond the momentum of his rapidly growing career and toward something more introspective: identity, balance and the need to reconnect with yourself.
Over the past few years, Funk Tribu has been in almost constant motion. Following the breakout success of “Phonky Tribu”, which has surpassed 100 million streams, his career quickly expanded from that of a self-taught DJ and producer into a global touring schedule spanning some of the world’s leading clubs and festivals, including UNVRS, Fabric London, Tomorrowland, Awakenings, Sónar, EDC, Timewarp and Lollapalooza.
Funk Tribu later released his debut album, “Against All Odds”, further establishing his position within a new wave of trance-influenced electronic music. But with that momentum came a pace that eventually became difficult to sustain.

“LIFE” was created during a period of reflection following years of intense touring and constant output. Rather than presenting a story of burnout or collapse, the EP captures a moment of realisation — that growth does not always mean moving faster or pushing further. The project instead turns inward, exploring what happens when you begin to question the rhythm you’ve been moving at and reconsider what success means on your own terms.
Conceptually, “LIFE” is built around four ideas: soul (alma), mind (mente), body (cuerpo) and life (vida). The three main tracks follow this progression, while the bonus track “Life” brings the story to a close. “reborn (alma)” opens the EP from a more introspective starting point, gradually expanding into an emotional and euphoric breakdown. “where are you taking me? (mente)”, featuring Dillistone, shifts into a more unsettled and immediate space, with vocals leading from the opening moments and playful percussion driving the track forward.
“this is the moment (cuerpo)” takes the journey back to something more physical. Sharper and more aggressive in its approach, the track is driven by acid lines and contrasted by angelic vocals, reconnecting the emotional ideas of the EP with the physical experience of the dancefloor.
The bonus track “Life (vida)” completes the journey, bringing the four-part concept full circle with a quieter sense of reflection.
The EP remains firmly rooted in the euphoric, trance-leaning sound that has become synonymous with Funk Tribu. Yet beneath the energy and scale is a more considered approach, reflecting an artist reassessing where he is going rather than simply continuing to move forward.
That idea also extends beyond the music. “LIFE” is accompanied by a series of connected films that exist within the same world as the EP without directly illustrating the tracks. Moving through physical environments, repetition, movement and the spaces between moments, the visuals focus on fragments rather than resolution.
For Funk Tribu, “LIFE” ultimately represents a shift rather than an ending. It captures the point where everything may appear to be working from the outside, while internally, the rhythm no longer feels sustainable. The release also marks another milestone for the artist, arriving as his debut release on vinyl through TRIBE as a limited-edition pressing.
With “LIFE”, Funk Tribu isn’t stepping away from the dancefloor. Instead, he’s looking at it differently — as a place not only for momentum and release, but also for grounding, connection and rediscovering what brought him there in the first place.
‘LIFE’ is out now via all streaming platforms.
