After an energetic B2B set with BIIANCO at Tomorrowland, we caught up with Alycia to talk about the surreal feeling of playing the festival, the female power behind her collaboration, and the sound that drives her sets. Fast, groovy, full of energy, filthy bass and insane drops, her style is all about making the dancefloor go wild. From her ultimate rave track to the craziest thing that has happened in her DJ booth, Alicia shares the moments, sounds and experiences behind her journey.
Interview With Alycia Bezgo:
Hi Alicia, thank you so much for spending time with us. It’s really a big pleasure to be here with you. So, how does it feel to be at Tomorrowland?
Hey guys! To be honest, it feels surreal. I only live 30 minutes from here, but whenever I come here, it feels like a fairy tale. Especially playing here, I really need to let it sink in because I cannot believe that I just played at such a big stage at Tomorrowland. So I’m super grateful.
You just played a B2B set with BIIANCO. How did this collaboration come together?
So actually, how it happened was that Tomorrowland asked me to play at the festival, and they asked me to play a B2B. So I really needed to search for a really good B2B. But I actually did not have to think a lot, because I knew BIIANCO. She’s such a nice person, personally as well, and I get along very well with her. And I know she’s an insane producer and an insane DJ as well.
So I was like, okay, this is a big moment, I need to share it with a girl like her. And also, it’s female power. I’m gonna feel very good with her, because obviously it’s a very stressful moment at Tomorrowland. So I felt right at ease with her. I’m very happy to have done the B2B with her.
Your sets always have such a great atmosphere and energy. How would you describe your music style to someone who has never heard you before?
I would say everything that is very fast, groovy, a lot of energy, filthy bass, insane drops. That’s actually my style. So whatever kind of music style it is, as long as it has those kinds of elements, I’m gonna play it.
If you had to pick an ultimate rave track, what would it be?
Oh, that’s a good question. I’m a big fan of a French producer called CTRL, and I play a lot of tracks of his because he’s an insane producer. And I just played one at the Atmosphere stage called “Kick Out,” I guess. I’m not sure, but I guess. And whenever I play that track, everyone is going insane, so I would say that is the ultimate rave track for me.
What is the most crazy thing that happened to you at a rave?
Oh, I have a really good moment, actually. A couple of months ago, I played at Compass Club in Ghent. It’s a pretty famous club in Belgium. I was playing and it went very well, but it was pretty late, so I knew the crowd was maybe pretty drunk already.
And at a certain point, one person comes in front of the booth, and he spilled his full beer on the CDJ, the CDJ that I was playing on. So it totally malfunctioned and it went out. I was standing there like, what do I have to do? Sorry for cursing. I didn’t know what to do.
But luckily, I had like five CDJs that I could just very fast track-load another track on, and then I just made it work. Like, even as a DJ, sometimes when you have big stuff like that happening, you need to make it work and just move on.
