Interview with YVES V

Hey Yves, congratulations on your newest release! Could you share the story and inspiration behind your latest track ‘Speed Of Light’?

Thanks so much! I always really enjoy working with vocalists and I’ve been making a lot of deep and progressive music lately. I wanted ‚Speed Of Light‘ to capture a high-speed and European sound that would still sound mega on the dancefloor. It leans into a harder house sound with a trance-y twist on the melodies, still really euphoric and hands-in-the-air but has this topline that audiences can also sing along to and let loose!

Of all the tracks you’ve produced, remixed, or collaborated on, which holds a special place for you and why?

There are so many tracks, both solo and collaborations, as well as remixes, that I’m super proud of, it would be so difficult to choose one! Over the past few years, I’d say that ‚We Got That Cool’ with Afrojack and Icona Pop would be one that stands out – that track has so many amazing memories for me. We had support all across Europe with radio stations like BBC Radio 1 and Capital in the UK showing us love, and performing it at Creamfields was a highlight, that Summer was a stand-out for me!

Being a resident DJ at Tomorrowland, how has the festival influenced your music and career?

I would say that keeping connected to my roots, as a Belgian artist, means so much to me to have been a part of what is now one of the most celebrated events in the world. Tomorrowland is the most inclusive place that sees electronic music lovers flock from all corners of the world, with something for every taste – techno, hardstyle, big-room, you name it, they have it! So I think not being afraid to experiment and having confidence in the styles of music I want to put out into the world, Tomorrowland has allowed me to hone in on that interest and remain true to my roots.

Reflecting on your career, what have been some of the most significant challenges you’ve faced, and what learnings have you taken from them?

I think it would be when I first leaped to go into music full-time, a long time ago now! I was a teacher previously and to leave what is seen as a typical and „stable“ job to pursue my passion was daunting at first, but I knew I had to do it! If we don’t take leaps in life, we can never realize our true dreams and I had belief in myself and what I could do. So I’ve learned a lot about self-belief, self-worth, and intuition, if I didn’t I wouldn’t be where I am today and for all my fans who have supported me, I’m super grateful for that.

How do you see the electronic music scene evolving in the next few years?

I think that AI will have a big impact, from the creation of music and even down to music marketing, we are already seeing AI being implemented but I don’t believe we have seen the full extent yet. It could be super positive and make the profession more accessible, but it also raises issues of ethics, copyright and so on, so who knows where what we will be seeing across the landscape in even another year or two.

What advice would you give to young DJs and producers who are just starting and hoping to make their mark in the industry?

To stand out from the crowd and don’t follow trends because they are just that! Believe in the music you make and what direction you want to head in, the rest will follow!
