In the midst of its busiest summer to date, Montréal-based imprint SLAPPED Records returns with À Fleur de Son, a seven-track Various Artists compilation curated by label founder Mitch Oliver. Out now, the release continues the label’s focus on refined, DJ-friendly club music built around detail, restraint, and long-form dancefloor impact.
Founded by DJ and producer Mitch Oliver in 2023, SLAPPED Records was created as a platform for music that prioritises execution and feel over genre limitations. Since its launch, the label has steadily expanded through a growing catalogue of releases and an evolving event series that brings its vision from the studio directly to dancefloors around the world.
Across À Fleur de Son, the emphasis remains firmly on subtle yet effective club records. Rather than relying on peak-time intensity, the compilation explores rhythm, groove, and progression, allowing energy to build naturally through carefully crafted details.
Borak opens the release with “Rushing for Love,” blending playful horn lines with soulful vocals. FREEEMAN follows with “Paris Bébé,” a sun-soaked, groove-driven cut that leans into warm summer energy. Hi Milio’s “Free Your Mind” introduces hypnotic spoken-word elements and gradually builds tension through extended breakdowns, while Manu (CA) and Peter Damian’s “Crowd In Sync” shifts the focus toward a precise and stripped-back club workout.
On the second half of the compilation, DUZA’s “Baby” brings a rawer edge through 70s drum breaks and old-school vocal influences. plv’s “It’s Not Just Music” strips things back even further into a functional groove designed for extended transitions and seamless mixing. Closing the release is TheClaw’s “Your Body,” which layers dusty, soulful textures beneath a rolling rhythm, leaving the compilation suspended in a reflective and atmospheric space.
The release arrives as SLAPPED Records continues a packed summer schedule of international events, with showcases and appearances spanning Ibiza, Los Angeles, Miami, and Amsterdam before culminating in a hometown event in Montréal on July 17.
