Interview with NETSKY

I’m happy to be here with Netsky at NOD Prague and just below it’s Roxy Prague, where you had your show yesterday. So how did you enjoy that?

Oh, man, it was great. It was really like one for the books again. The energy was incredible. I love Roxy, obviously. I played there so many times now, but nothing changed. Over the past decade or so, like, it’s it’s always the same energy. And yesterday, again, the crowd was incredible. You’re surrounded by a lot of people on the left and the right. Yeah. Fantastic day yesterday. We walked around. I’m sitting here with a fantastic little local IPA. I’m playing again tonight. So life is great.

Yeah, it was sold out yesterday and tonight it is sold out as well. So do you have any surprises for tonight for your fans?

It’s a surprise, yeah. I mean, same as yesterday. I’m playing a lot of new music. It’s a great place in the world for me, to test out new music and try the reaction to music. You’re right. So, yeah, lots of new stuff. I’m excited!

I mentioned surprise because actually, you like to surprise your fans on your Instagram. I saw last time the girl you’ve Face timed And so I’m just wondering if the fans surprise you as well with something and if you have some good story for us?

Oh, wow. Yeah, of course. Yeah. That’s that’s always like quite interesting people with great stories. I’m actually here with my fiancee and she met a lot of people next to the stage yesterday and it was a fan surprise because it was a whole like that’s people from all over the world coming to this club, it seems. And a lot of English people came to our set last week in London. They came yesterday. They kept coming again tonight. So yeah, whether it’s a surprise or not, it’s so cool to hear stories from people who almost follow you around and want to relive a set and see it in a different environment. So that’s cool.

You started your career many years ago with a liquid and drum and bass and I’m wondering how has your sound been involved during the years?

Yeah, that’s a very good question. I like to dabble with a lot of different genres and like to see how you can combine certain things. I personally love writing a good pop song every now and then as well. So yeah. How has it evolved? I think I went to a lot of different genres in the past ten or 15 years and now I’m really, you know, in the studio. I would love to go back to the roots of drum and bass, like a little bit more to liquid Drum and bass. I’m writing a lot of very methodical stuff right now, so that’s really fun. We bought a piano in our house, so I love to just play piano melodies now on an acoustic old kind of odd-sounding piano and trying to work with that and some. So yeah, sounds amazing!

Well, do you still remember the first point or first moment that actually turned you to start to play music and produce?

Yeah, For me, it’s just being around my dad, he was a big music fan. He didn’t play many instruments or anything, but he had a big record collection. I got into electronic music by just listening to his records, sampling those records, and making them sound really cool in my mind as a kid, to not listen to soul and funk, but make it drum and bass and make it super young and danceable. So that was how I got into doing this.

Is there any use or new project or new music that is coming from Netsky in the near future?

Yeah, I don’t have like a release date to tell you anything, but we’re working on some really cool stuff and many people noticed about me, I’m really into technology and I think the next step for me musically is to try and kind of combine. Yeah, I can’t say much about it yet, but like I’m working with some really cool people back home in Belgium to create and I hate the word immersive show because everyone uses it, but I really want to try my launch like using technology and music at some point and Its way early to talk about it, but next year I want something really solid and really incredible show.

Do you have any message, that you would like to say to your fans who are coming to see you to Roxy?

Thank you for believing in me, we sold out Roxy twice in one weekend and it’s been such a long time since I have been playing with the band at Lucerna obviously and Let It Rool, and all these different venues over past years and for me 15 years after still be able to do that with this energy and this kind of the crowd, a young crowd as well they are not old like 35 and 40, its a young people again yeah massive thank you for the support over the last 16 years. I feel extremely old but extremely happy. You guys do the best!

Thank you very much for staying with us and enjoy your second show at Roxy.

Thank you guys
