Interview with Echonomist:
Kalimera, Petros! It’s great to have you here with LoudLife ahead of your performance at Pacha Ibiza. To start, how are you feeling about playing such an iconic venue alongside CamelPhat?
Kalimera! Thank you, it’s a real pleasure. Pacha is such a legendary space, and it carries a kind of magic that’s hard to explain until you’re in it. This will be the first set of the night, so for me, it’s about setting the tone and creating the right atmosphere. I believe the opening plays a key role in shaping the energy that follows. Sharing the night with CamelPhat makes it even more special; I really admire them as artists.
What kind of journey or story are you hoping to share with the crowd in Ibiza?
For me, it’s always about emotion and energy. I like to create a sonic story that builds slowly and pulls people in; something hypnotic, cinematic, and ultimately euphoric. Ibiza is a place where people come open and ready to feel something, and I want to meet them there with a sound that moves both the body and the soul.
Why did you choose the alias “Echonomist”? Is there a special meaning or story behind that name?
Yes, there’s quite a personal story behind it. The name combines two parts of my life: “echo” represents memory, space, and the idea of sound resonating through time, which is how I experience music. The “-nomist” part comes from economics; I studied it at university. My father had dreams of me joining his company, but he passed away suddenly just six months before I graduated. That changed everything. I realized life is too short not to follow what you love. So I committed to music, not knowing where it would take me, just doing what made me happy. “Echonomist” became a way to carry both the past and future with me.
How would you describe your sound to someone hearing your music for the first time?
Emotive and layered. It lives somewhere between the dancefloor and your inner world; melodic techno blended with post-punk textures, ambient atmospheres, and cinematic feelings. I want people to feel something real, not just dance but remember.
You co-founded Flying Hearts with Jenia Tarsol, focusing on music with feeling, memory, and intention. What motivated you to start this label?
Flying Hearts was born from a shared belief that music should mean something. Jenia and I wanted to create a label for timeless, emotional music; not driven by algorithms or trends, but by feeling. We’ve already had a beautiful start; our collaboration Harbour is out now and feels like a statement of intent: deep, nostalgic, and full of atmosphere. We’re also releasing a haunting new album by Electric Litany this October, which really expands the label’s sonic palette. And I’m especially excited about an EP we have coming with Tomas Barfod from WhoMadeWho; it’s a fusion of both our worlds and something we’re very proud of.
What excites you most about electronic music right now?
The return of emotion. I feel like we’re entering a phase where vulnerability, nostalgia, and musical storytelling are coming back into focus. Artists are blending genres freely, drawing from the past without imitating it, and there’s a real hunger for music that says something. That’s inspiring.
Thanks so much for your time, Petros! Do you have a special message you’d like to share with the LoudLife readers and fans ahead of your Ibiza show?
Thanks to you as well; this was a meaningful chat. To everyone coming to Pacha or listening from anywhere in the world: bring your heart, your curiosity, and your openness. Let’s create a moment together that we’ll remember. That’s what it’s all about.
