“A Collaboration In Controlled Chaos”: wRec Introduce Their Debut EP ‘age’ On Ginene Records.

Rotterdam duo wRec unveil their debut EP age, blending distorted drums, glossy synths and experimental club sounds into a vivid exploration of change.

Rotterdam-based DJ and producer duo wRec, formed by DJ Shahmaran and Himera, operate somewhere between controlled chaos and polished club experimentation. Their sound moves freely between grime, glossy textures and saturated electronic landscapes, constantly playing with contrast, distortion and unexpected mutations.

Their debut EP age brings together four tracks built around a mix of analogue and digital sound design. Across the release, wRec explore the aftermath of profound change, turning its fragments and intensity into something vivid and energetic. Distorted percussion, shimmering melodies and restless basslines come together to create a colourful, experimental take on contemporary club music.

The EP kicks off with Signal, a slow-burning opener that gradually builds around a hypnotic melodic bassline before reaching an explosive final crescendo. A driving kick is layered with shimmering strings and sharp rhythmic plucks, creating a constant sense of movement and tension.

Recess takes things in a more playful direction, pairing garage-inspired percussion with a classic electro-house bassline. The track eventually breaks into an energetic, euphoric breakdown, while a childlike countdown leads into a mix of glitchy drums and squelching synths. Curious and unpredictable, it captures the experimental spirit running throughout age.

Pendulum shifts the EP into darker territory, hitting with distorted vocals, ritualistic percussion and a weighty low end. Beneath its lush strings and industrial echoes lies a sense of something much heavier, as if calm waters are hiding the wreckage beneath the surface.

Closing the EP, Shiver begins in a more atmospheric space, built around hazy pads and delicate melodic plucks before dropping into a dubstep-inspired rhythm. Sharp snares and abrasive synths drive the track forward, eventually giving way to an explosive, euphoric breakdown. It leaves age suspended somewhere between beauty, distortion and complete collapse.

Since releasing their debut track “Icarus” in 2024, wRec have continued to explore the contrast between abrasive synthesis and hard-hitting drum patterns, while weaving atmospheric and ambient textures into their club-focused productions.

Their growing live presence has already taken them to several notable spaces and events across Europe, including a live performance for Berlin’s Globbworld, alongside DJ sets at POING Festival in Rotterdam, Vespers in London and Garage Noord in Amsterdam.
