Interview with Whisnu Santika
Big congrats on ‘Are You Ready’! How did the collab with Akeey and Liquid Silva come together?
Thank you! Actually, Akeey, Silva, and I joined a community called Package Collective. It’s a DJ community where we share and discuss our passion for music, and that’s where this collab came together. Silva and I had worked together on a couple of tracks before.
What inspired the energy and message behind this track?
This track is all about positivity—bringing uplifting energy and good vibes to face future challenges. We hope our music can spread that positivity to everyone, helping them stay ready for whatever obstacles or unexpected moments life may bring.
What does signing with Spinnin’ Records mean to you personally and professionally?
This is my first track with Spinnin’, and it truly means a lot to me. I’ve been told that my music has a unique sound, and having the chance to release it through such a respected label is something I’m really grateful for. I hope this release helps me share my music with more listeners out there.
How would you describe your Indo Bounce sound to someone new?
My music is influenced by house, breaks, and baile funk—so ‘Indo Bounce’ is really a blend that came out of those inspirations.
How do you balance repping your Indonesian roots while staying global in your sound? Is that a conscious thing or just flow?
As a musician, I believe it’s important to adapt to global sounds while staying true to my own signature style. In every set I play—especially in new markets—I try to find a balance between introducing my music and connecting with the audience through familiar sounds. My goal is always to share something unique while making sure people enjoy the experience
What’s next on your journey — any new music or shows we should watch for?
This year has been busy but really exciting for me—with new releases and the chance to tour in new places. I recently released a track with SORN (from the K-pop group CLC) and Judika, one of Indonesia’s top pop artists, and I’m hoping to collaborate with more international names in the future. I just played my first shows in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur last week, and I was genuinely touched by the warm welcome. Next up: my debut shows in Australia, with gigs in Sydney and Melbourne this June.
