With forthcoming releases penned for Solid Grooves, Insomniac, and his own imprint ‘House Delivery’, Tony sets the bar high with impeccable production, partnered with an unforgettable vocal and a bassline that’s guaranteed to move the crowd. Interview with Tony Romera:

Hello Tony, congrats for your newest release on Toolroom “Time To Move”  The track is full of feel-good 80s flavour — what inspired you to dive into that retro energy?

Hey!! Thank you so much. I’ve always been a big fan of Disco and Funk, probably because my parents listened to a lot of this when I was a kid and Funk is really something people love in my hometown, especially Carmen’s version of the song from 1984, it’s like a big anthem in our city.

Mark Knight called it a potential summer anthem — how did it feel to get that kind of praise from someone like him?

First, I really hope he’s right on this ! haha. It feels unreal to be honest, I’ve been a big fan of Mark since 2008/2009, big fan of Toolroom also of course. I’d love to tell my younger self that now I call Mark ‘brother’. Mark is such a legend, and I have a lot of respect for his incredible career and longevity, he’s supported my project for a few years now and I’m so grateful for this!

If you could drop “Time To Move” at any club or event in history, where would it be and why?

I think it would be at Space Ibiza or DC10, probably back in the 2005/2007 era. I keep seeing old videos from this time and energy was something else, with almost no phones up and some crazy moments with people going super wild.

What are your must-visit spots this summer? Any cities or festivals you’re hyped to visit?

I’m playing at Rex Club in Paris on June 12th, this club is legendary and I’ve been dreaming about playing there since my beginnings, more than 15 years ago. So, playing a 3h Extended set in this club, where all the legends played and where all the artists dream to play one day is absolutely incredible. So hyped for this !

What’s your current studio setup like? Any favorite plugin or gear you can’t live without?

My studio set up is my dream set up, I built it years after years. I have a cool acoustic treated room, with some Vicoustic panels, working on my laptop. Synths regarding I have a bunch of cool ones : Sequential Prophet 5 Rev 4, Moog Sub Sequent 37, Korg MS20 mini, some 303, some cool Berhinger clones. But I also work a lot with samples obviously, and a lot of plugins, my fav is Xfer Serum, which is super versatile.

Do you have any creative routines or habits that help you get into the flow when making music?

I usually listen to a lot of music when I’m out of the studio, while driving, chilling, traveling (as I travel a lot I listen to a lot of stuff when I’m in the plane), it’s always super inspiring to listen to every genre. So when I arrive at the studio I usually have hundreds of ideas in mind already. But when I arrive at the studio I usually start with a main element and then build around it. If not, starting with some drum grooves, and building around this (which makes you push the boundaries sometimes !)

What’s one artist right now (newcomer or veteran) who’s absolutely killing it in your opinion?

One of my best friend Max Mash is killing it right now! We just released a collaboration called ‘Looking For’ on Michael Bibi & PAWSA’s ‘Solid Grooves Raw’, which was our biggest goal ever. He’s sending me some music everyday, and it’s always a vibe !!! You better watch out, cus he’s gonna kill the game soon.

Can you give us a teaser of what’s coming next for you in terms of music, touring and plans?

Sure, I have a lot of music to put out this year. Starting with an EP on Detlef’s ‘Issues’ on June 6th, then a new collab with Dombresky releasing in June too. Also opening my new label this summer with a super awaited first release. Some EP on Eats Everything’s Edible, and more tracks on my fav Toolroom ! Touring wise, I have some cool shows coming, in France, USA, Ibiza and more, super excited for this ! Also, I just signed with a new management and I’m so happy about this, we’ve been talking since a while and I think I finally found the right team. 🙂

Thank you very much for your time and have a wonderful summer!
