Interview With Natasha Polke:

Hi Natascha, It’s great to have you with us at Loudlife! How are you feeling these days, and what’s currently on your agenda?

Hi, so nice to meet you! I’m feeling great, thank you. It’s been such a busy and exciting season and honestly, it hasn’t really stopped yet. This is actually one of my first weeks “off” in a while, so I’m back in the studio working on new music. It feels really nice to be home for a bit before heading out again. I’m about to go on my next U.S. tour with Nils Hoffmann, which I’m super excited about!

Your new EP Dawn is out via Universal Music Switzerland. What does the title ‘Dawn’ represent to you?

Dawn represents the border between a dreamworld and reality.

Yeah, exactly Dawn kind of feels like this doorway between two worlds, between a dream and reality… or between night and morning. The EP is about everything that happens until the dawn is breaking, that space where emotions run high, whether it’s in a dream or on a dance floor. I wanted it to capture the spectrum of feelings you go through before the night fades and reality kicks back in.

What message or emotion do you hope listeners take away after hearing Dawn?

I actually hope people feel a whole range of emotions when they listen to it. Each track lives in its own little emotional pocket, so the EP becomes a journey through different corners of your mind. ‘Ghost’ leans into nostalgia, while ‘Dawn’ brings out something cheeky, reckless and wild. ‘Find Me’ is much more fragile and heartfelt, with a hint of raw urgency and something a little untamed underneath it.

Lead track ‘Find Me’ is full of feeling, yet perfect for the dancefloor. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind it?

I actually wrote Find Me right in the middle of a fight. I felt really sad, frustrated, and angry all at once. My first reaction was to pull away because I felt fragile, but deep down I just wanted the other person to care enough to reach out. It’s that mix of darkness and softness, when you’re angry but still want to be seen and to reconnect.

You’ve released on labels like Anjunadeep, This Never Happened, and Stil vor Talent, what have you learned from working with such diverse imprints?

What I’ve really learned is how important it is to have a strong team of people who genuinely understand your music and your vision. That’s been a big focus for me this past year, building a team where everyone pulls in the same direction.

What’s your favorite memory from performing live — a moment that really stayed with you?

That’s always such a tricky one to answer, but a recent moment that really stands out is my show at DGTL in Mumbai. It took place in this huge warehouse and the crowd was unbelievable, with so much energy and so many people singing along to the songs. It reminded me of how universal music truly is and how it brings people together from completely different cultures and backgrounds. The DGTL team was wonderful as well. I really love when you connect with the people behind an event and those relationships naturally turn into real friendships.

Another moment that meant a lot to me was playing at Cercle in LA in May. The production was incredibly beautiful and it felt like such a milestone.

You’ve already built a strong global following, what’s next for Natascha Polké after Dawn?

I have a release with Cercle coming up this December, which I’m really excited about. Beyond that, I just want to keep the momentum going, more music, some beautiful collaborations, and a lot of touring. There’s so much I still want to explore creatively, so I think sleep will have to wait a little longer.
