Interview With Ferreck Dawn:

Hi Ferreck, Great to have you with LoudLife, how are you?

Doing great, thank you. I’ve had a very busy summer and working loads in the studio so keeping myself nice and busy

Your newest single “Serious” marks your debut on Toolroom. How did this collaboration come about, and what inspired the track’s 80s-infused sound?

It’s actually not my debut. I released on the label before, last release was around 2018 I reckon but def great to be back. I love the team and the label so coming back with ‘Serious’ feels like a perfect comeback.

You’ve released music on Defected, Relief, Kittball, and now Toolroom. Each label has its own identity. How does your creative process shift depending on where the track will land?

To be honest, it doesn’t. I produce songs in the studio based on inspiration and gut feeling. I’m not steering my productions towards a label per se. I feel the production process should be loose and creative, I don’t want to constrain myself to a certain sound a label does too much.

Let’s talk about the summer, what was your best or most memorable gig of the season?

I’ve really enjoyed the shows in Pacha this year. It’s one of my favourite clubs in the world. Such a great vibe in there, just amazing. Also very pleasantly surprised with Sunrise Festival in Poland. The festival has been around for years but this was my first time and was blown away by the scale, production and the people attending.

Balancing a busy touring schedule and family life isn’t easy. How do you manage to stay grounded and make time for both?

I have a very supportive girlfriend who I’ve been with for 14 years so she kind of ‘grew’ into this life with me, which makes it easier. She understands really well what is needed for work. My studio is at home so I do see my kids a lot as well, bring them to school, pick them up etc. Very important to find a balance indeed.

What’s your take on the current house music scene? Do you feel it’s evolving in the right direction?

I think house music is moving in a great direction. It’s great to see the young ravers be really into music from guys like Prospa, Chris Stussy and Anotr. It’s definitely at a faster pace than a few years back but I like that it’s evolving.

You’ve had support from legends like Carl Cox, Green Velvet, and Mark Knight. Has any piece of advice or moment with them stuck with you?

I have a lot of respect for all the gentlemen named above and really appreciate it when others play my music. I met Carl once in Canada and was literally starstruck but he was super kind.

For upcoming DJs trying to make their mark today, what’s your biggest piece of advice?

I think in general what’s important is to be patient, consistent and to find your own sound. Put in the time and work to dj properly, learn how to read the crowd. Also start producing music (loads of tutorials on Youtube to give you a jumpstart)

What’s next for Ferreck Dawn? Any upcoming releases, collaborations, or projects we should keep an eye on?

I have another release dropping this year at the end of November on Selected called ‘Velvet & Ice’. It’s more deep house vibes and I’m really excited about that one. Furthermore I have loads of new tunes coming up for next year and shows throughout the US and Europe so keep an eye on the socials.
