Joris Voorn performed at Exit at the Castle in Brno, Czech Republic, delivering a memorable set at one of the country’s top open-air electronic events.
We had the pleasure of catching up with Joris for an exclusive conversation ahead of his performance at Exit at the Castle in Brno. We spoke about his musical journey, the importance of connecting with the dance floor, his creative process, and the experiences that continue to shape one of electronic music’s most respected artists. Here’s what he had to say.

I’m standing here with Joris Voorn, live from Exit at the Castle in Brno. Welcome back to the Czech Republic! How are you doing, Joris?
I’m doing very well. I’m super happy to be back here on this beautiful summer day. I’m really looking forward to playing a nice set here tonight.
I’m not sure if you remember, but we’ve met a couple of times before, last year at Cova Santa in the DJ booth, and a few months ago at UNVRS during ANTS. I was actually really surprised to see you in the crowd, partying and dancing like nobody was watching, so free in the crowd. Is that something you always enjoy when you’re not the one behind the decks?
Sometimes, you know, I mean, it’s really important to know as a DJ what it’s like to be on the dance floor as well, because you can always be on the stage, but if you’re never in the crowd, like never ever, you know, you kind of lose a little bit the touch of what it’s like to be playing for who you’re playing for. So for that reason, I think it’s really nice to sometimes, I don’t do it so often, but sometimes really go into the crowd, especially, I remember this party you mentioned, I was playing the daytime at Ushuaia and then at night, you know, like, and then, you know, I was finished at 11PM or something and then just want to do something else. So yeah, let’s go to UNVRS. So that’s fun.
Recently, you’ve played in Awakenings Festival in Amsterdam, which was your vinyl-only set. How different was it compared to your usual sets? And what’s next in your calendar?
It was very different. It was a 100% techno set. I think I played at around 142 BPM, so it was very fast. The music was very different too.
I spoke with the Awakenings team about doing something special, and we thought, “Yeah, let’s do a vinyl set.” I bought a lot of new records because I hadn’t been buying vinyl for the last couple of years. I also didn’t want to play all my old records, so I needed to refresh my collection. It was actually a great experience because it really inspired me. There’s so much great new techno out there, it’s quite incredible. A lot of it is only available on vinyl, so if you’re not buying records, you’re simply missing out.
Yeah, I’ve heard that said it was really quick than usual. Today is your first time performing in Brno in Czech Republic. Are we going to see you at the after party later?
Oh, that’s a good question. I have to go to Tomorrowland tomorrow and I’m flying super early, so I’m not so sure. And I think we’re taking the car back, so we’ll see.
So maybe we can see you back to back with me as a special guest, because I’m playing as the first one from 10 PM, so I’ll be waiting for you 😀
And the last question, the most important one. Your signature look. Where do you have these glasses from?
Oh, everyone’s asking me always. They’re just from Moscot, which is a very old New York brand. And they’re all over the world. They have a shop in Amsterdam and they make really classic glasses, but they’re also kind of forward thinking.
