A closer look at the man behind the name, exploring Marco Cariola’s journey, creative vision, and the experiences that shaped his path in music and beyond.
Marco Cariola creates sharp, satirical content about the music industry, calling out DJs and influencers who he believes damage the scene. Unafraid to share his opinion or publicly poke fun at industry figures, his Instagram has grown rapidly and gained global attention. Some famous DJs featured in his posts block him, while others even ask to be included in his weekly “Cringe Vibes” roundup for the exposure. We had the chance to ask Marco Cariola a few questions.

Interview:
Marco, your page has become one of the most followed platforms in dance music culture, what made you start it in the first place?
Don’t ask me how I managed to get so many followers in such a short time.
I don’t know what pushed me to start. I began on Facebook with videos of DJs where I edited the audio to make them silly.
Your page’s name is a clear play on Marco Carola, why build the whole thing around a parody of his name?
I chose a name that was easily recognizable and memorable, but it’s not really a parody aimed at just one person.
Everyone’s curious about the man behind Marco Cariola, can you tell us a bit about yourself? We already know you’ve got a great sense of humour.
Actually, lately I’ve been showing myself on the page more often because I think it’s right to put my face to it, and for me the time has come.
The crazy thing is that before I showed myself, some people said I was hiding behind the character with the mustache. Now that I show my face, they say I’m trying to take advantage of the page’s visibility.
Humor is one of my hidden sides that came out on social media. In reality I’m very shy and reserved: a fairly serious person, but also a caring and affectionate father.

Has anyone ever asked you to take something down from your feed, and did you actually do it?
It happens all the time”.
When they ask politely, I’m happy to accommodate them.
When they ask by insulting or threatening me, I completely change my attitude.
Dozens of people have threatened me with supposed lawsuits, lawyers’ letters, or requests for money for alleged damages.
In the end, though, nothing has ever happened.
Which of your own posts made you laugh the hardest, and how do you even come up with this stuff?
There are many posts, and it’s hard to remember them all.
My favorites are definitely the ones about Keinemusik, Marco, and the various pseudo DJs who play without any cables plugged in.
I don’t really have a proper plan; I act on instinct.
I scroll through Instagram, see a post, and spot something funny in it.
At that point, I make it my own.

Do you think social media has redefined what it means to be a “successful DJ”?
Often people become famous on social media before they do behind the DJ booth.
Social media has changed everything, but likes don’t give you quality or talent. Either you have it or you don’t, and sooner or later it shows.
What do you think DJ culture will look like in five years?
I think we’ve probably already hit the lowest point during this period, so I hope that from here on things will start to improve.
Maybe social media disappears, fake DJs lose interest because they can’t perform in front of a camera anymore, I stop making memes, and in clubs word of mouth comes back with only truly talented artists.
Who knows? Everything changes so fast. :)).
And to wrap things up — can you leave us with a DJ joke? 😄
If you want to rest well and have peaceful dreams, put on a Keinemusik playlist in the background.
You’ll wake up feeling refreshed. 😄
