TSHA: “I Want To Bring Back The Original Essence Of Dance Music”

This summer, while the Loudlife team was living on Ibiza, we got the sweetest surprise — our neighbour turned out to be TSHA, one of the UK’s most exciting and influential names in dance music. Known for her melodic, Balearic-inspired sound, sold-out shows from Glastonbury to DC-10, and her fast-growing Jackfruit brand, TSHA has become a true force on the global scene. Since we’ve been fans for a long time, we invited her over to our Ibiza home for a relaxed, personal interview about her journey, her new Jackfruit label, and what’s coming next.

Interview With TSHA:

Hi everyone, this time we are not backstage, but at home because the DJ and artist we are interviewing is our neighbour, Tisha. How are you? Welcome to our house.

Thank you. Thanks for having me.

Well, you just returned from Germany Berlin and you played for Berghain. How was it?
It was pretty amazing. Normally I would have expected to play Panorama Bar, but I actually closed Berghain — the main techno room. It was interesting to play house music in that kind of space, but it turned out to be incredible. I really enjoyed it.

Have you been there before as a guest?
Yes, I have. I once lost seven hours in there and I stayed for a really long time. But it’s such an amazing place. You can completely let go, and I love the no-phone policy and the sense of community they have.

We are in Ibiza and you actually live here now. You were born in the UK, right? So why did you move to Ibiza and what made you choose this island as your home?

A lot of people assume I came here purely for the music, which is of course a big part of it — I was here often because of my work and got to know the island well. But over time, Ibiza became special to me because of its energy. It has a beautiful, healing quality. Every time I flew in, I felt like I was coming home. I also got married here, so it naturally became the right place to live.

Your husband is also a DJ and producer. Is there any competition between you two, or is it more supportive?

I think it’s more supportive. I’m maybe more competitive than he is but he’s very supportive and very like, goo Tisha.

I saw you both playing at Pikes recently — the vibe was amazing. It was your party, Jackfriut, right? Could you tell us more about this project?

Yes, Jackfruit is a party which I actually launched before COVID, but then COVID happened so obviously it didn’t happen. I’ve relaunched then and even did a US tour with it. It’s a no-phone policy party that brings old-school house vibes — more Chicago, Detroit. I want to bring back the original essence of dance music that I feel has been lost recently in more commercial spaces.

You mentioned the no-phone policy, which is becoming very popular in Ibiza. Still, many people say the island is not what it used to be because of the VIP culture and people coming mainly for photos and TikTok rather than the music. What’s your perspective on that?

That’s true, it’s not what it used to be. Things always change, and the early years of anything are usually the most exciting because everything is new. But I still think the spirit is here; you just have to know where to go. There are many new parties popping up, and a lot of them are introducing no-phone policies to bring people back into the moment. The VIP culture is very different now, and it’s here to stay. I’m not a big fan of it, but I guess it’s a necessary evil at the moment.

This season was huge for you — you shared the stage with legends like Carl Cox and played for massive crowds at Universe and Hï Ibiza. How did you enjoy it, and did little Tisha ever dream something like this would happen?

Playing with Carl Cox was incredible. Universe is such a cool club, the design is amazing, and that was one of my favourite sets of the year. Being on the lineup with such a legend meant a lot. As for little Tisha, I always knew I wanted to get out of my hometown, that I was going to go somewhere, somehow, but I didn’t know what that would look like. So in a way, yes and no.

The Ibiza season is now over. What’s next for Tisha? Any special plans or projects you can share with us?

I’m taking a couple of months off to focus on writing new music. Then I’m heading to Australia at the beginning of the year, and to Thailand after that. Hopefully I’ll come back next summer with a whole new collection of tracks, a new campaign, and a fresh vibe. We’ll see what happens

We are really excited for that. Thank you so much for sitting with us and enjoy your free time now.
Thank you. Thanks for having me.

Thank you very much.
